Winter Won't Wait is now playable

I am happy to announce that this Game Comic is finally complete! It functions entirely on this blog's pages, and you can play it by going to the "Start" button above or through here. You can navigate the story by clicking on one of the panels at the end of each page, this way making choices...

I've been working on Winter Won't Wait for the past 20-something days and it has been really fun, since it also gave me lots of perspectives and workflow secrets that are only gained through practice.
But since the WWW blog was made to host the large amount of pages of the game comic (didn't count, but they are over 50 for sure), I will only keep posting stuff on my main blog, Andreas Express.

With this said, have fun figuring out the comic and if the timing is still right, have a merry Christmas... :)

Concept Art Session - Grandad

If you haven't met Grandad yet, be sure to check out the first part of my Winter Won't Wait interactive comic here. (and click on the yellow-bordered squares to navigate through the story.)

Below are the initial concepts for Grandad's character, a once strong fellow with a trauma that left him glancing into darkness... Now hoping that the city's power failure won't leave his loved ones in darkness as well...

A first bit of story

The first part of the interactive comic is now playable! You can check it out by clicking the "Start" button in the pages bar or by clicking right here.

I thought it is better to post bits of the game before it is finished, since it makes it more accessible instead of having to put out concept art for something you are not able to see yet... :) The advantage of posting the game in chunks also means that I can get around some post-production factors that I am not able to see from "behind the curtains". Now I can use everything I learned to improve the next bits, which will somehow improve the whole story part by part.

Adventures are being crafted... and coloured in unexpected ways

I'm glad to announce that this interactive comic is in full production, with some content ready to be released very, very soon... Since I wanted a more fast-paced workflow for this project, I thought I would break it down into smaller chunks and straight-away post them as soon as they are finished.
With that in mind, I will focus on having a first segment of Winter Won't Wait ready by... this Sunday.

Until then I must say I had fun making the first panels of this project, especially in terms of dealing with the chaos of the colours... and I call it "chaos" in a playful manner, it's just a natural event caused by the fact that I didn't put any colours in my concept art...

In the end, I relied on my imagination and the atmosphere of the piece and stuck to some colours that fit quite well, but on the way I passed through all sorts of little questions, such as "what colours to use for the evening-lit apartment", or even "how blue should Raquel be?"

Concept art: expressive hair demands expressive faces

Now that Raquel has a stable look and has been developed as an icon and a concept, it also needs to be developed as an actual character. For that purpose, I made a small range of simple face expressions that she is going to have throughout the comic...

Concept art session: A main character... with feet

After developing the main look for Raquel's face, I made a few sketches to decide upon the final proportions of the body. I kind of wanted her to be slightly unprepared for the harsh outside world, but in the same time adaptable to it.

A matter of curliness

Here are the first bits of concept art for Winter Won't Wait's main character, Raquel. It went through several iterations while trying to figure out how her face should look, not to mention the untamed but expressive hairstyle...

It all started with a flash

Hello and welcome to Winter Won't Wait, a new choice-based game that will happen right here on Blogspot! My name's Andreas and I just can't wait to show you the story of Raquel, a bright-minded girl adventuring in a world that has been engulfed in darkness... While things are being prepared here, you can check out my main blog, Andreas Express, by clicking on this cute little word. It will take a bit until some serious content will be made, but that won't stop me from posting lots of wacky concept art... So stay tuned, and be sure to pay attention to how you use your batteries...I'm warning you from now. :)
